From the Editor
GREETINGS NEHRENZS!!!
Well it was about time for you to hear from me and so now you are!
Many exciting avenues have been pursued since the August 1995 issue. Now
1996 will bring a whole new chance to follow leads concerning our
ancestry. I want to thank all of you who have sent articles, photos and
information. The rest of this issue will be devoted to the topics :
1) the Nehrenz name.
2) the Germany connection-Trollenhagen (and the Neubrandenburg
connection).
3) the USA Nehrenzs and the updated addresses (and an appeal for you to
submit all of your e-mail addresses to us)
4) Another appeal for you to send old photos and pictures of our Nehrenz
ancestors. and finally
5)Asking you again if there is any area
of special interest in which you can help us.
As your editor, I have enjoyed hearing from many of you and hope that your
interest does not wane!
My life, like yours, revolves around church, family and work. So, when I
do have extra time I work on this when I can!
Thanks!
DAVE NEHRENZ
New Projects
The newest projects involve, as one
might expect, the use of the Internet. I have identified several German
home pages which are sources for information about the German state of
Mecklenburg - Pomerania (which included old Mecklenburg-Strelitz).
The home page for GERMANY is :
http://
www.chemie.fuberlin.de/adressen/brd.html.
From there you proceed through a search of German states to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
to the city of NEU- BRANDENBURG
Established in 1248, the city's 750th anniversary is in 1998.
And guess what!?, the city's airport is located 10 minutes north in
TROLLENHAGEN,- the city from which all of us Nehrenzs come! Of the 120
families on our Nehrenz address roster, could someone plan a 1998 vacation
to spend a week there on behalf of all of us?!
Let's set the goal of convincing someone to go over there that year!
GERMAN NEHRENZS
The records of the Lutheran church in TROLLENHAGEN, going back to 1703,
are still being examined page by page here in Norman. I wrote Pastor
Scultz in Neddemin, just north of TROLLENHAGEN. He says that the "church
is in a state of disrepair, with cracks in the walls and leaks in the
roof." I wrote him and he answered in German. I sure do hope that somehow
we can get photos of this church, because it was there that all our
Nehrenz ancestors were baptized, confirmed, married and buried!
TROLLENHAGEN RECORDS
As I have searched records about
Neubrandenburg (87,000 residents) the following has happened:
1) the Tourism Agency will be sending info about that whole area including
TROLLENHAGEN (a small town, just a few miles north of this larger city
which has an ancient history, much culture, philharmonic orchestra and
theatre)
2)Herr Horst Ulleman there has also contacted the local newspaper to run
an article about our Nehrenz ancestry search.
3)the Home Page for Neubrandenburg had
these shocking notations (which I translated from German):
a) "From 1933, Neubrandenburg was a garrisontown (with the military
airfield at TROLLENHAGEN!) the arms company and Panzer tank barracks were
built there. The NEUBRANDENBURG-TROLLENHAGEN AIRPORT is situated a 10
minute drive from the town-center of Neubrandenburg. The airport is
affiliated with the VPNV(?)
b) In 1943 the 'Mechanical Workshop' erected a Women's Concentration Camp
in Neubrandenburg with up to 6,000 women from 8 lands(?)
c) On April 29,30 1943 the Red Army had massive clashes and firebombing by
which over 80% of the town, palace, town hall and Virgin Mary Church was
destroyed. The Soviet Interior Ministry met there."
NOTES 1) The past newsletters are still available. Contact us if you want
copies. |
2) Don't discard the
former issues, since the info about all our ancestors will not be repeated
in later TNN issues! (Recall that the JOHANN CHRISTIAN NEHRENZ FAMILY left
Trollenhagen in 1869!)
3) Please still send your copies of papers, letters, photos etc... of your
NEHRENZ LINE, whether from:
FRIEDRICK, CHRISTIAN, CARL, CAROLINE, WILLIAM, JOHANNE OR HENRY.
4) Thanks again to the following folks: Claire Talbert, Bernice Bowers,
Ruby Wolcott, Bob Nehrenz, Clyde Nehrenz, Harold Nehrenz, Billie Navarro,
James and John Nehrenz, John and Marjorie Hoffmeyer, Paul Nehrenz, Wayne
Nehrenz, Leonard Nehrenz, Kathleen Nehrenz, Virginia Harwood

CAN YOU HELP?
1) Help with postage and paper expenses has been greatly appreciated! I
put it into an account just for that purpose, and future donations are
welcome!
2) Have you gone through that old box full of pictures, postcards, and
various and sundry books and objects inherited from grandparents and
parents? When you find something of interest, photocopy it and send it for
our NEHRENZ NETWORK ARCHIVES!
3) Did you ever sit down yet and write down memories of your own life,
your spouse, children, parents, grand-children, various occupations,
residences etc... Do it now for your children's sake, because when you are
gone - all those memories will go with you! (Ask your kids to interview
you on an audio cassette for posterity's sake!)
4) REMEMBER THAT THE NEHRENZ NETWORK EXISTS FOR 3 PURPOSES:
i) Research our ancestry through genealogical pursuits in the USA
ii) Discover relatives and ancestry in GERMANY.
iii) Connect all living Nehrenzs in a fun and caring network all across
the USA and WORLD.

TNN - THE NEHRENZ NETWORK
NEWSLETTER Editor - Dave Nehrenz
The most disconcerting part of this research has been the reality that two
names: NEHRENZ and NERENZ are used in the USA and GERMANY. With contacts
Germany, we have found NO NEHRENZS only NERENZS. It may be that these two
are totally different or that the "H" was added or dropped by one group.
USA NEHRENZ'S
Here in the USA, we continue to identify more folks through the National
CD-ROM Phone Directories.
PLEASE KEEP SENDING ADDRESS CORRECTIONS AND NAME ADDITIONS TO BE ADDED TO
OUR NEHRENZ ROSTER!!!
Information about the various children of JOHANN CHRISTIAN THEODORE
NEHRENZ and his wife JOHANNA MARIA ELIZABETH LEMPKE includes:
1. The plot layout from Claire Talbert of the Wade-Scranton Cemetery where
JOHANN CHRISTIAN AND WIFE and their son WILLIAM AND HIS WIFE are buried.
(unmarked)
2. Some good photos of FREDERICK NEHRENZ have been received from Alvin
Nehrenz in Timonium. MD. Frederick, the oldest son, has the large
gravestone at Lutheran Cemetery in Cleveland.
3. CHRISTIAN NEHRENZ (son) has his grave at Monroe Cemetery in Cleveland
and it is also unmarked.
4. HENRY attended the old Concordia College in Addison, IL. and we have
located his wedding picture and drawing book.
