THE NEHRENZ NETWORK NEWSLETTER- AUGUST 1995 VOL.1 NO. 2 GREETINGS FOR A SECOND TIME ALL NEHRENZ RELATIVES AND FRIENDS! By now, most of you received the first TNN Newsletter which was composed in May 1995. This second effort comes after many more contacts have been made and more information has come to light. To begin, several different names are shared by our readers. These include: NEHRENZ, NEHRENS, NERENZ, NERENS, NEHREN. At this point, we still do not know for sure if these are totally different names or variants on the same name. I have appreciated hearing from many of you these past months. You have sent pictures, copies of certificates, family tree information and the like. Many of you have not yet responded or may still be wondering what this is all about! I can assure you that this is on the "up and up" and is essentially an attempt to network fellow descendants of common ancestors. Names, addresses and phone numbers have been accessed through CD ROM national phone directories. We still do not have all possible Nehrenz names, but we have a good start. Let me begin by saying this, if you who read this have a different spelling than "NEHRENZ" in your family name, do not toss this newsletter aside. Please do not assume that what we are discovering does not apply to you. I believe the variant spellings DO tie into some common ancestor somewhere. The other thing I would ask is that you take an interest in this endeavor, even if right now your genealogy holds no particular interest for you. I realize that life is filled with: making a living, school-work, going to church, fishing, hiking, hobbies, music, soccer/baseball practices and games, watching TV and using your computer. (And whatever your family is busy doing.) But at some point, someone in your family is going to say, "Mom, I have this project at school, I'm supposed to trace our family tree, how do I do this?" That's how I became interested in this field myself back in Lakewood, Ohio in 1972 while I was in high school. What I am going to ask in this newsletter several times is this: SEND PHOTOCOPIES OF PICTURES-PLEASE. Find all those old pictures in boxes, take them to a copy place, copy them, mark on the back who is on the picture, and send them in. We will have a clearing house here where anyone may have access to them. This way we can compile a better FAMILY HISTORY. You may have in your possession the only copy of a record or photo of an ancestor common to us all. Many have already sent such items and we thank you! Since the last newsletter, I have been interviewing on tape various folks with Nehrenz ties. I met in Rocky River, Ohio with Leonard and Margarite Nehrenz, Claire Talbert, Elva Brobst and Mildred Youngblood this summer in June. Their memories and recollections are invaluable in these efforts and I enjoyed meeting all of them. I have also interviewed immediate Nehrenz relatives: my father Clyde Nehrenz, Uncle Harold Nehrenz and Aunt Marjorie Hoffmeyer. Several other interviews are planned. This is another favor I could ask, to audio tape yourself and your older relatives discussing their memories of Nehrenz grandparents and relatives. This is a lot of fun for everyone involved! This summer, we went back to Cleveland for a visit and my brother John Nehrenz' wedding. While I was there I took pictures of all the NEHRENZ TOMBSTONES AND BURIAL PLACES. I also drove all around the streets in Cleveland where the Nehrenzs originally settled, around W. 25th St., and around Scranton Rd., where Immanuel Lutheran Church is located. Our original forefather: JOHANN CHRISTIAN THEODOR NEHRENZ and his wife MARIE LEMPKE with their children belonged to this church. As the family grew up and moved away, they raised their own children in other churches and communities. If you recall the last newsletter, and I hope you kept it on file, I sent a map showing TROLLENHAGEN from where these Nehrenzs emigrated. I also sent a picture of the ship BORUSSIA on which they sailed from Hamburg to New York. Included also was an initial NEHRENZ ROSTER. This newsletter includes other pictures, maps and an updated Nehrenz roster. What will probably be of most interest to all of you will be a giant FAMILY TREE from which you can find your place in the Nehrenz line. This will be coming in the future, and will need to be put on a special software program created for this purpose. It will be very large and will have to be a fold-out. THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST! EDITOR AND RELATIVE! - DAVE NEHRENZ. I will try to update you on the research and ongoing inquiry into the Nehrenzs in Germany from our past as well as ones still living there.

everyone if we can tell a little about ourselves. Spouse? Occupation?
